A California man named Barcus Twombley was killed in Oregon:
A Eureka, California man died Friday afternoon when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle while attempting to cross Highway 101 on foot in the Brookings/Harbor area. Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation.
According to OSP Senior Trooper David Wehner, on January 21, 2011 at approximately 5:50 p.m. a Dodge Durango driven by WILLIAM C. SCHLICHTING, age 50, from Brookings, was northbound on Highway 101 near milepost 358 when it struck a male pedestrian attempting to cross the highway in an unlit area where there was no crosswalk.
The pedestrian, BARCUS RONALD TWOMBLEY, age 40, from Eureka, California was pronounced deceased at the scene. TWOMBLEY is believed to have been transient with no known address in the area. His next of kin were notified.
SCHLICHTING was not injured.
OSP was assisted at the scene by local emergency responders. The northbound lanes were closed during the investigation.
