Waxwings!

They stop in to eat the holly berries in the backyard trees.

Orion and I got our first real experience with cedar waxwings a couple of weeks ago. We were just home from some outing and were hanging out in the car waiting for the stormy weather to abate. Suddenly, we were surrounded by a flock of waxwings who were alighting then flitting away, returning and departing from a red berry bush right next to my driveway. There must have been 50 to 100 birds zipping to and fro around us. And they're such pretty birds, too. I snapped a couple of pix on my phone, but they were too small to make out. Still it was Orion's first confirmed species for his birdwatching book. And it was just plain cool.
